TO COVER OR NOT TO COVER: A STORY ON AURAH AND DAKWAH

Not so long ago, I saw a status of a young Malay woman condemning on why Muslim women have to wear tudung. According to her logic, Allah creates beautiful hair to be shown off and not to be covered. She went on by giving examples of how Eve/Hawa had gloriously beautiful hair when she was created by Allah for Adam and by nature Eve/Hawa didn’t cover her hair. A young Malay man answered her question by asking her, “By nature all of us were born naked. Why didn’t you walk around naked?”

I’m not writing this status to condemn others who are not covering aurat. Wallahi, I’m far from a perfect 10 in this. But I would like the readers of my status here to be aware about the danger of using your limited human logic to go against Allah SWT words.

If you don’t have the feel and guts to follow what’s supposed to be followed, just keep your mouth shut coz there’s no use in going against what’s written in the religion and Al-Quran. Remember that Iblis was thrown out of the Heaven due to his arrogance. You can gain supports from people with minds alike in social media but what about The One who created you?

Beware of our mouth and mind; both can be used for positivity or negativity. Both can bring us to Hell or Heaven. Choose wisely. Even if you have a different ideas from others, especially in terms of religious matter, keep those to yourself.

I used to be a free-hair person so I know how some of you feel about whether to cover your hair or not and vice versa. Mr. Hubby asked me to wear head scarf ever since we got married but I wasn’t ready. Year in and year out he would keep on advising me but I gave him the same answer: I wasn’t ready but I said Insya Allah. Until middle of 2014, I started to wear tudung most of the time. I just feel like doing it coz I feel it was the perfect time for me. Thanks Mr. Hubby for patiently waiting for 14 years.

So next time when someone asks about this tudung/aurat thingy, don’t answer based on your limited human logic but just politely say INSYA ALLAH.

Those who are already covering aurat or wish to advise your friends to cover their aurat, please do so tactfully and don’t condemn them. Instead pray to Allah for them. Don’t be harsh to others. No name-calling. Our Prophet Muhammad SAW used the most gentle approach in dakwah so we should follow his style.

I have done my part here. May Allah bless us all.
