About Me
DO YOU KNOW THAT I NEVER DREAMT OF BECOMING A TEACHER IN THE FIRST PLACE?
(Lol! But yes, that’s absolutely correct! Luckily I changed my mind later in life).
Hi everyone! I’m Shahzalina Ghazali, or fondly known as Cikgu Shah.
(Cikgu means Teacher, in Malay language)
I’m a graduate in Electrical & Electronic Engineering and used to teach engineering subjects in a secondary school in Subang Jaya for 12 years. Then I moved to Setia Alam in 2014 and I was horrified to see the school has no engineering subjects to offer their students. First thing in my mind, “OMG what am I gonna teach?”
But being an optimistic person I am, I started to rebrand myself as a History teacher. Yup, it’s a true story of how an engineering teacher became a History teacher. And the rest is history (pun intended).
As a logical person who’s into simple, uncomplicated ways of solving problems, I’m fueled by my desire to make my students enjoy the learning process while understanding the subject. I teach beyond what’s in the text book because admit it, text book can be boring. But the knowledge behind those texts are unlimited and exciting, and that’s where I came in 🙂
Besides teaching, I’m also into charity works, particularly my students. There’s a lot of urban poor families in the area where I live, so sometimes there are students who lack the basic necessities like food, books and school uniforms. In 2018, I initiated Gerobok Rezeki in my current school with the help of my friend. Gerobok Rezeki is like food bank, but it does more than that. We help students who are in need for recess food, books and school uniforms and neccesities. I am proud to say that Gerobok Rezeki SMK Setia Alam is the first in Selangor and second in Malaysia and helps to inspire many more Gerobok Rezeki in others schools across the nation.
As a person, I’m not eccentric but I can be different. As a Gemini, I love reading and good music is a must to my daily life. I do the work I do because I love it. I love my life as mom, wife and teacher to so many students. I embrace the joy of learning and I instill that daily to my students.
Thanks for stopping by. Hopefully we cross path in the real world and together we can make it a better place. Spread love and positivity!
