In 1977, 43 years ago, my late father-in-law, Cikgu Syed Zamri brought my hubby who was 7 y.o at the time to watch the first installation of Star Wars movie at Cathay Cinema in Taiping. It was considered as the greatest movie of all time during his younger days.
Hailing from a small village situated in Padang Rengas, Perak, to be the first person to watch a great movie like this was like some sort of social/personal achievement. Hahaha!
It was just a movie, you might say. But it was a fond memory that reminds my husband of his late father. To a kampung kid like him, when his father broke the news that he would be going to watch a great movie that had everyone talking about, it was beyond belief. Not all kampung folks had the luxury of watching movies at that time.
So when he requested me to buy the ticket to the Star Wars 7th installation in advance, I know he wanted to reminisce on the great old days he had with his father. He wanted to continue the tradition with his son, Nufayl. And the best way was to bring Nufayl to watch the movie on his 6th birthday which fall on 17th of December, 2015.
It’s the little thing like bringing your kids to watch movies or spending time with them playing kites that create the best memories. To us the parents, it may be nothing much. But the memories we carved into the mind of our children are so powerful, vivid and everlasting.
In the future they’ll talk about it to their spouses and most probably will be doing the same to their children. Like what my husband did. And hopefully Nufayl will continue doing the same to his kids.
Dear parents, let’s create some wonderful memories for our kids. It doesn’t have to be costly. But most importantly it must be sincere and comes from your heart. Jangan ingat anak-anak kita tak ingat or tak tahu apa-apa. Sweet memories are more valuable than the most expensive gift in the world.
I love the Star Wars movies installation, since I was small. Luckily my kids love them too and we always have a lot to discuss about our favourite movies.
