My daughter, Yaya who’s in form 5 this year, was given a task by her English teacher which is to write an essay entitled:
The Most Beautiful Thing In The World for Me
The word ‘beautiful’ can be used in so many ways. It can be used to describe one’s physical looks, an object or a place, even a pet to some too. The most beautiful thing in the world for me is the love and passion deep within the veins of an individual.
Love and passion are obviously two different things. Love can be described as a feeling of deep affection one has towards their family, kids, significant other or even an idol they look up to whereas the latter would mean as an extreme interest in or wish for doing something, be it a hobby or one’s career. Though love and passion are two different things, they both have something in common and that is hard work. How would love bloom without hard work between two individuals? How would passion rise amidst all the illusions and dreams swirling in your head without hard work? Without hard work, it would be a waste of time, wouldn’t it?
When talking about love and passion mixed together, a perfect example I have in my head would be the leading South Korean boy band, BTS. Otherwise known as Bulletproof Boy Scouts, the 7 member boy band has always been known to sing and write songs about love and passion. Love in the sense of self love and confidence, spreading love wherever you go and passion in the sense of having the passion to sing and perform, the passion to love and the passion that got them where they are right now.
Let’s be honest, everybody starts somewhere and it is no different to BTS. They debuted in an unknown company and was often said to be an embarrassment to the music industry in South Korea. The boys have often been backlashed by the public for singing about topics other than the generic love songs, for their concept and for what they were preaching for. However, the boys believe that every cloud has a silver lining. What made them still move forward was their love and passion for music along with the fandom’s love and support.
And it was all worth it! With the driving force of love and passion from the bandmates and their fans, BTS became a crazy sensation all around the world and the message they’ve preached for has been delivered which is: Love Yourself. Fortune favours the bold, and that is BTS. This shows to many people that good things come to those who have love and passion in everything they do, and that’s the most beautiful thing in the world for me.
